Abstract

At the present day, the metal fixation devices are widely used in facial bone fracture surgery. The known disadvantages of these metal fixation devices are growth disturbances in the developing skull, atropy of the bone, corrosion, and artifacts in CT and MRI. To overcome these problems, there had been a continuous research on the development of a bioabsorbable skeletal fixation devices using polymers of polylactic and polyglycolic acid. And increasing the use of these devices in craniomaxillofacial surgery. We have used the BioSorbFx^? in fracture of zygomaticofrontal suture line. But it was palpated by patient 6 months later. In operation, we identified plate was not absorbed at all. In conclusion, BioSorbFx^? should be used carefully in thin skin and muscle area such as eyebrow, frontal area, and infraorbital rim.
